Description of the Country Home
There are 5044 total acres. 3100 acres are farm ground, 1900 +- acres in native rangeland, 50+- acres in native meadow. The 5 year proven yield of Hard Red Winter Wheat is 40 bu. / ac. If converted to strictly a cattle operation, the carrying capacity would be 500 head/year. Cattle can go from the calving barn near Little Malad Spring to the high mountain pastures without leaving the ranch.
The ranch sits on the edge of the Great Basin. Water from streams crossing the ranch flows into the Bear River and on into the Great Salt Lake. A few miles to the north, the water flows into the Snake River and on into the Pacific Ocean. The ranch sits in a natural bowl which tends to catch extra rainfall but uniquely pushes violent storms with hail to the north. There are two beautiful canyons and several mountains, hills, and aspen lined ravines. The ranch is an important calving area for elk and fawning area for mule deer. Hudspeth's Cutoff, a major cutoff on the California Trail, runs across the ranch. Little Malad Spring was an important stop on the Hudspeth's Cutoff and was described as the largest spring seen on the trail. Near Little Malad Spring was a major Shoshoni/Bannock Indian campground. There is pumice, basalt, and lots of obsidian on the ranch. The Malad area is considered one of the top 5 Native American Obsidian collection sites in the U.S.
Big game hunting for Moose, Elk, Mule Deer, and Mountain Lion.
Waterfowl hunting species: Canada Goose, Snow Goose, Mallard, Cinnamon Teal, Green-winged Teal, Blue-winged Teal, Northern Pintail, and Sandhill Crane.
Bird hunting species: Columbian Sharp-tailed Grouse, Hungarian Partridge, Chukar Partridge, Ruffled Grouse, Blue Grouse, American Crow, Chinese Ring-necked Pheasants, Common Snipe, and Mourning Doves.
Fishing: 1/4 mile from the ranch is Daniels Reservoir which has been designated and Idaho Department of Fish and Game Trophy Lake.
Horseback riding, snowmobiling, four wheeling, and motor cycling: With over 5000 acres of deeded ground and thousands of acres of BLM ground to the north, south, and west of the property, it doesn't get much better than this.
